Adult First Day School
Venue: Hockessin Friends Meetinghouse
The Hockessin Friends Adult First Day Group (AFDS) meets on the last two Sundays of the month. When there are five Sundays in a month, we meet on the last three Sundays. We do not meet in the month of July. The group meets at 9:30am in the library and on Zoom. All are welcome to join. If you'd like to be added to the group email list, send a note to ReligiousEd@HockessinQuaker.org.
The goal of AFDS Group is to deepen and strengthen our belief in Quaker values and continue our individual growth along our spiritual journeys. We do this in various ways. For instance, the group has engaged in Friendly Bible Studies, reading articles from “Friends Journal,” and discussing general queries posed to the Quaker Community. Currently (in early 2025), the group is exploring the Gospel of Thomas. Topics the group explores are decided upon by regular attenders of the group.
The AFDS Group guides the selection and design of the lessons or readings selected. It usually addresses main ideas or queries Friends may be struggling with or arise from conversations during previous meetings. Other times, lessons or readings are selected to assist Friends with spiritual growth in areas they need. Generally, the group sessions are designed to provide Friends with an opportunity to explore, discuss and strengthen their faith in God.

Meeting for Worship
10:45am
Venue: Hockessin Friends Meetinghouse
We gather and meet in silence to listen to that of God within and speak only when led to do so. Because everyone has that of God in them, anyone may speak. Friends usually pause between messages to allow the words to be fully appreciated. The end of meeting for worship is marked by shaking hands or otherwise greeting one another.
Hockessin Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends, in the State of Delaware, assembled on Third month 2nd day, 2025, in meeting for worship with attention to business, affirms its support for the lawsuit that Philadelphia Yearly Meeting and other yearly and monthly meetings have filed against the Department of Homeland Security. The lawsuit challenges a policy that would allow immigration agents to carry out enforcement actions at places of worship. We believe that all people have the right to the free exercise of religion and to peaceably assemble and that such a policy would interfere with the ability to worship without fear. Central to our form of worship is recognizing “that of God in everyone.” Fundamentally, all individuals are sacred and deserving of equal respect. Furthermore, we follow in a long tradition that calls us to welcome the stranger and includes the divine mandate, “Any immigrant who lives with you must be treated as if they were one of your citizens. You must love them as yourself...” (Lev. 19:34). For these reasons, we add our voices in support of the lawsuit.
More information about the lawsuit is available on Philadelphia Yearly Meeting’s website: https://www.pym.org/category/peace-social-justice/dhs-lawsuit/
